The Gathering 2026: Many Gifts, One Spirit

April 8, 2026

In late March, AQORD members joined three sister associations in Indianapolis for The Gathering 2026, a collaborative conference that replaced AQORD’s traditional annual event this year. The event brought together health and human service leaders representing five faith traditions—Anabaptist, Methodist, Presbyterian, Quaker, and United Church of Christ—creating a meaningful opportunity to learn from one another while strengthening a shared commitment to service.

The conference was shaped through partnership with Methodist Ministries Network (MMN), the Presbyterian Association of Homes and Services for the Aging (PAHSA), and the Council for Health and Human Service Ministries (CHHSM). This collaboration expanded opportunities for learning, networking, and community-building, demonstrating the strength of working across faith traditions while honoring each one’s distinct value.

Attendees experienced keynote presentations from Nikki Rineer, Dr. Starsky Wilson, and Stan Phelps, alongside 35 educational sessions and multiple networking opportunities. Together, these reinforced the conference theme, Many Gifts, One Spirit, highlighting both the shared mission and diverse perspectives within our sector.

Sessions were organized across five learning tracks: Governance and Strategic Planning; Holistic Care and Community; Marketing and Fundraising; Operations and Financial Stewardship; and Workforce Excellence and Leadership, allowing attendees to tailor their experience while exploring new ideas and approaches.

More than 500 participants attended The Gathering, fostering both new connections and renewed relationships. AQORD also hosted daily member lunches, offering time to reconnect, share updates, and engage in programming designed specifically for the AQORD community.

A highlight was a conversation between AQORD board members, David Jones and Myron Weaver, exploring the similarities and distinctions amongst AQORD’s Anabaptist and Quaker traditions. Their dialogue provided valuable context and helped articulate a shared vision for AQORD’s future.

AQORD  also celebrated innovation within its membership by announcing the 2026 Innovation Grant recipient, Goldensun for its Sensory and Wellness Enhancement Project for Adults with Developmental Disabilities, an initiative reflecting the creativity and impact of AQORD organizations.

The Gathering served as a powerful reminder of the importance of fellowship. We are grateful to our members and partners for creating a welcoming, inspiring space for learning and connection.

We now look ahead to AQORD’s 2027 annual conference in Greenville, South Carolina, and the opportunity to build on the momentum of The Gathering. Thank you for making this year’s conference such a meaningful experience. We look forward to seeing you in 2027.
